Positivity is really important. I’m not talking about being unrealistically happy, even in the worst of situations. Rather, I’m talking about intentionally choosing to focus on the good parts of our lives. I have noticed that my good days and bad days are structured pretty much the same way (I go to school and work and come home to my family in the afternoon). My perception of those events is what makes them good or bad. On that note, here are three steps to becoming a more positive person.
1. Practice Makes Positive
A key principle of becoming better at anything is practice (sometimes years of it), the same is true of positivity. One way that I practice positivity is by logging three good things about my day into my phone each evening. It has become a really bright spot in my day, even when it’s been a tough day. I write what was nice, why it happened, and why it was nice. Surprisingly, it is a really great way to practice focusing on good things.
2. Just A Note To Say…
Rumor has it that writing thank you notes on a regular basis increases longevity. I’m not sure if the rumor is true, but I know for sure it increases positivity. Taking time to focus on things you appreciate about other people on a regular basis (once a week or once a month) really helps boost positivity. Being appreciative has never failed to lift my spirits, and I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t do it enough! Set aside a little time and write someone special to tell them how much they mean to you and add a couple of reasons why, it will make a difference trust me.
3. Philanthropic Focus
While it may not be feasible for everyone to volunteer at a homeless shelter once a week, there are still plenty of philanthropic things to be done. Go out of your way to hold the door open for a busy mom at the supermarket, wash the dishes so that someone else in your house doesn’t have to, or make a donation to a local charity. There are a lot of options, the main point is to go out of your way to be kind to someone else. Help out your fellow man! It is amazing how quickly you begin to adopt a positive outlook on life when you do this!
That concludes my post for today! There isn’t really a way to include glamour shots in a post about positivity so I’ll substitute that with a happy little turtle instead!
